Human Rights Statement

This Human Rights Statement explains the standards Curastem holds itself to as a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose purpose is to help everyone get and keep a job they love.

We are not a court and we are not a government. This Statement does not create a private right to sue Curastem beyond rights you already have under law. It is a public commitment about how we design programs, treat people, and spend donated money.

Dignity of work

Work is not a privilege for people who already have a polished resume. It is how most people eat, house themselves, and stay in community. We reject the idea that some people are “not worth hiring” because they are tired, poor, new, or returning after a gap.

Love of a job, as we use it, means work a person can return to without humiliation. It means pay and hours that can support a life. It does not mean we can invent a perfect role for every person. It means we will not design help that only works for people who already have spare time and a quiet office.

Equality and non-discrimination

Curastem does not discriminate in programs, volunteering, employment, or how we talk about the public we serve, on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, disability, veteran status, or other status protected by applicable U.S. law.

We know that “equal access” is empty if the only path to help is a form that assumes a college degree, a car, or English as a first language. We will keep changing our tools and our writing so more people can actually use them.

Forced labor and exploitation

We oppose forced labor, child labor that violates applicable law, and trafficking. We will not partner with a program that requires people we serve to work without pay as a condition of receiving job-search help from Curastem.

Mentors and staff may not take a cut of a person’s wages, demand unpaid chores, or use immigration status as leverage.

Safety and bodily integrity

No one should have to accept harassment, violence, or sexual coercion to get help finding work. Reports under our Code of Conduct at curastem.org/code-of-conduct are how we learn about that harm. We take them seriously.

We are not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

Privacy and data

A person looking for work should not have to surrender more personal information than the task requires. On curastem.org we do not run a login-based job product. Donation and contact data are described in our Privacy Policy at curastem.org/privacy.

We operate a separate website that helps people search and apply to jobs. That site has its own notices. We will not sell the stories people tell us in mentorship as marketing copy without permission.

Voice and complaint

People we serve may criticize Curastem without losing access to public information on this site. Donors may ask how money is used. We will answer in plain language, including the limits of what a small nonprofit can prove in a given week.

Formal privacy requests are described in the Privacy Policy. Conduct reports go to hello@curastem.org as described in the Code of Conduct.

Accessibility

We aim to make curastem.org usable with common assistive technology and on a phone. If a page blocks you, email hello@curastem.org with the URL and what happened. We will treat that as a defect, not as your personal failing.

Partners and vendors

When we hire a vendor or name a partner, we expect them not to use Curastem’s name to run a scam, a discriminatory program, or a paid “guaranteed job” scheme. We will end a relationship that we learn is doing that.

International notes

Our programs are built first for people in the United States. Human dignity does not stop at a border. We will not use nationality as a reason to mock or exclude someone who reaches us lawfully for information or a gift.

This Statement is informed by widely recognized principles of dignity, equality, and decent work. It is Curastem’s own policy. It is not an official text of the United Nations or of any government.
